Timothy J. Clark and Robert Neffson
Hammer Galleries
33 West 57th Street, New York

This two-man show, part of a city-wide celebration, A Gallery Salute to the 130th Anniversary of the Art Students League, will feature selected paintings by gallery artists and league instructors Timothy J. Clark and Robert Neffson.

The New York Times in its extensive September 9th article on the League called participating artists Luminaries of the League. Clark and Neffson are among thirty living and historic artists including Will Barnet, Robert Henri and Jackson Pollock with gallery shows running as part of the celebration.

Mr. Clark is a master painter . . . He is a keen observer of nature and humanity. His considerable skills enable him to interpret his
observations beautifully through the drawing materials, oil paint and watercolor with which he has developed a unique, powerful, painterly approach.

Realism Now: Traditions and Departures - Mentors and Protégées
Vose Galleries
Boston, Massachusetts

This exhibition in America's oldest, continuously-operated fine art gallery is curated by Marcia Vose with a catalog forward by the noted art historian, Trevor Fairbrother. The show examines the relationships between artists, and the influences and changes from generation to generation. I am paired with Millard Sheets N.A., who first discovered and championed my work in 1978. We are the only representatives from California. Should you be in Boston, don't miss this impressive

Celebrating Sherman Library & Gardens 35th Anniversary

. . . Sherman Gardens was inspired by the Mediterranean style of Spain. Clark, who has been painting here for over twenty-five
years, is perhaps the only artist who has captured in his work the palette of the Gardens, architecture, and plants. These paintings of Spain and California celebrate our Mediterranean climate and lifestyle

Two Decades of Island Paintings
An Exhibition of Watercolors and Oils
Parker Ranch Art Museum
Kamuela, Hawaii

Inspired by the huge ranch, old estates nestled in the lush tropical foliage, exquisite and largely unspoiled beaches, tiny atmospheric villages, gracious state parks, and most of all warm and friendly people, Clark has been painting the Island of Hawaii for two decades. In his work, tropical light bathes the architecture, gardens and natural vistas to reflect a sustaining harmony of humankind with nature during a time of increasing change.

Clark is unique in that he is the only artist I know who divides his time between Hawaii, California and Maine. This is evident in his paintings which are sensitive both to the Western ranching and New England missionary influences on the Big Island in addition to its Polynesian and indigenous roots. He has the artistic skills and spirit to convey his love of the island. - Diane Quitaquit; Director, Parker Ranch Art Museum

Our Museum's collection of 19th and 20th century masterpieces is the new pride of the Big Island. The exhibition of Clark's paintings is a wonderful complement to this collection and depicts the beauty of our island, especially its upcountry sunlit vistas. - Bertil Long, Curator, Parker Ranch Art Museum

The ITALIAN Paintings
Oils, Watercolors
Bowers Museum
Santa Ana, California

BELLOSGUARDO
a view or sighting which touches the heart and moves the soul

Timothy J. Clark sees things ordinary people can't . . . Clark, one of the finest artists of this time, is among my favorite painters. With a fidelity to his own artistic vision, he paints in the rich traditions of Sargent and the American Impressionists. His masterful drawing, heightened sense of color and light, and comprehensive compositions testify to decades of dedication as an artist. His sensibilities range from quiet and poetic to vigorous and emotional. - Jean Stern,
Director, The Irvine Museum & Noted Authority on American Art / Guest Curator, this exhibition

Clark's first art class was at the Bowers Museum in the late 1950s. A graduate of the Chouinard Art Institute and the California Institute of the Arts, Clark has studios in California and Maine. His unique style is recognizable in a variety of subjects and his personal vision of the world has fostered a painting language that captures the positive of modern life. "I draw on both figurative and abstract painting traditions," says Clark, "to express the most arresting of what I see in the world around me."
